"The sound is from the heart, the chords insistent, the words pouring from somewhere deep inside. The words: they're lyrical, poetic, flowing...the expression of a life's worth of living and loving and working and traveling."

Tomy Wright's
Musical Inspirations

Folk, Pop, Rock and Blues singer/songwriters/performers of the 60s, 70s early 80s, Contemporary Christian and Gospel in the mid 80s & mid 90s, and Traditional & Contemporary Folk, Alternative, Jazz, and World Music for the late 90s to present:

In 1967, Influenced heavily by a Boston DJ on WBZ (FM 103), Dick Summer, Tomy listened intently to Summer's 'Loving Touch" show of poetry readings and commentary on folk music featuring the premiere artists of the day, but particularly:  Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Jonie Mitchell, and Arlo Guthrie.  And later Boston's WBCN, rounded out Tomy's schooling of FM radio Album Oriented Rock of Psychedelic Rock, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Reggae, and New Wave.  He was well-versed in the musical language of the Woodstock generation.

In 1968, Tomy started his courtship of the guitar.  The loan of a childhood friend's red Gretsch hollow body electric guitar for two years and a Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland Song book started the real journey of musical discovery.   And in 1971, with the purchase of his own classical guitar in Washington, DC, consummated the marriage between man and his guitar - a 30 plus year love affair.

Additionally, Tomy still holds the following artists integral to his musical development and style: George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Robbie Krieger, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Ian Anderson, Leon Russell, Leslie West, Steven Stills, Neil Young, Duane Allman, Greg Allman, Dickie Betts, Vassar Clemens, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Hicks, Cat Stevens, Greg Lake, Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Roy Williams, Al Di Meola, Leo Kotke, Al Stewart, Dan Fogelberg, Rory Gallagher, Jerry Reed, Lindsay Buckingham, Lowell George, Paul Simon, Roger Waters, Kerry Livgren, Amy Grant, Keith Green, Bob Fitts, Phil Keaggy, Matthew Ward, Rich Mullins, Michael Card, Dan Peek, Ulysses Moye, Peter Buffet, Robert Mirabal, Christina Muir, LisaBeth Weber, Tom Prasado-Rao, Paul Risler, Sonia Rutstein, Vance Gilbert, Ani Difranco, Doug Alan Wilcox, Brian Dennis, Steve Key, Todd Walker, Miles Davis and Ali Farka Toure.

Tomy is currently collaborating with David Mays and Brooke Robbins as
The Tomy Wright String Orchestra, with 2008 Wammie award winner Ron Goad occasionally joining on percussion.
And as long as Tomy is performing and experiencing other musicians, he assures us this list will continue, but still be "Tomy Music."
